A 'Head Start' in Engineering

On Tuesday 7 July our very own Modelling and Simulation Engineer, Philip Perfect, attended one of the Engineering Development Trust’s ‘Headstart’ summer schools to speak to young adults about a career in engineering.

The Aerospace Engineering specialist course was run by Philip’s old employers, the Flight Science research group at the University of Liverpool. The aim of the course was introducing 17 year olds to working within in the engineering industry – in particular aerospace, in Philip’s case.

All of the students undertook a series of design, build and test tasks, which depicted to them what being an engineer is like. One session was even devoted to careers beyond University, which is where Philip stepped in:

“The event gave young adults a real insight into the career of an engineer, and how they can develop within the industry once they have finished studying”, explained Philip.

“I spoke about what it is like to work as a practicing engineer, my career to date, who Blue Bear are and what we do. I also gave examples of the type of work that I get involved with day-to-day, including some of our biggest projects.”

One of the most notable projects Philip be spoke about was RISER, which has recently been pushed to the forefront of the unmanned industry, after its launch at leading budget UK airline easyJet’s Innovation Day in Milan.
